There will always be moments like these

Talking to a friend in your lecture and they ask you if you have any plans over the holidays. You tell them you were just busy doing assessments and other commitments outside of uni. You ask them the same question and they give you a similar response.

They then ask, “what are you doing this Sunday for Father’s Day?” It then hits you. You aren’t really doing anything because your father had passed almost six years ago. You smile to yourself because you already know how they will respond when you tell them.

“Oh, I’m so sorry I had no idea” they always say, feeling guilty for asking in the first place. When they shouldn’t feel that way because they didn’t know. And this response happened on that day. You now probably seemed a bit weird for smiling before when they asked.

It is a scenario which has happened quite often for the last six years and somedays it is harder to tell people when they ask.

Happy Father’s Day to all dads. Celebrate with your father today, whether he is here or not.
