It's not fair for a child to go to school each day in fear it could be their last.

It's not fair for a child to hug their parents each day in fear it could be their last.

It's not fair for a child to be in fear that their last day is today.

It’s not fair. February 14 was the day where a mass shooting happened in Parkland, Florida with seventeen people killed. A nineteen year old, Nicholas Cruz who was a former student that was recently expelled from the school, arrived at just after 2pm, set off the fire alarms and in six minutes shot fifteen students and two teachers. One of the teachers, who kept her students safe in the classroom, described the scene as a war zone with blood on the stairs, in the hallways, blood in front of the building, bodies being dragged. Schools should be a safe place where parents drop off their children knowing they are safe for the day, to then pick them up after school or to see them at home after work. Imagine being a parent and receiving a call from the police hearing your child was shot dead. I am not a parent myself, but the thought crushes my heart immediately. Unfortunately, this school shooting was the sixth one of 2018 in America.

After the Parkland mass incident, students took immediate action. March For Our Lives begun which was led by students who no longer want another life taken by a mass shooting. These students are the ones that are taking action to stop mass shootings that is now becoming news too well known in America. Even the rest of the world is aware of these mass shootings that keep happening in America. The protest for March For Our Lives took place on March 24 in Washington, D.C. and around the world with over eight hundred cities planned to participate. These cities were marching in support wanting tighter gun control in America, to keep the residents safe and allow students to go to school without fear.

I signed the March For Our Lives petition, and you should too.
